We are so excited to be presenting Bloom in its ninth year running! Bloom is a showcase featuring emerging artists, both choreographers, and performers. We can’t wait to share these seven new works with you!

Sokolow

Grace Sokolow is a contemporary dancer based in Toronto, Ontario, currently completing a bachelor of fine arts in dance and theatre at York University and recently studied at the University of Chichester in the United Kingdom. Grace works as a performer, choreographer, dramaturg, director and writer. Recent choreographic and directorial works include; Jupitero (2023), Some Kind of Situationship (2022), HMS (2022) and Oh, Hey Carrie (2022). Grace has recently performed in; Lucy Jack’s Emblems of Communication (2023), Monica Dotter’s Janice Almighty (2022), Ayden Mauro’s Straighten Your Crown (2022) and Amy Williams’ Present Tense (2022). Grace has a love for unique performance and is constantly evolving and redefining what kind of mover and creator they are.

Grace Sokolow is a multi-disciplinary artist based out of Tkaronto and its surrounding area. Currently completing an undergraduate degree in both Theatre and Dance, Grace identifies as a performance-based creator and finds joy in all things art! Grace has experience training and working in the styles of; modern, contemporary, tap, ballet, improvisation, ariel, breaking and more. Working as a performer, choreographer, dramaturg, director and writer. A defining moment so far in their journey was working with Bloom last year on their work, Woe Of His Own which was fueled by contact improvisation, touch experimentation and working on abstract visual landscapes. Chosen performance credits include; The Colour Line by Kemora Manning (Dance Innovations 2024), When I Grow Up by Jaelynne Gervais (Factory Theatre, 2024) and InTransit by Alayna Molotkow (Theatre By The Bay, 2024). This year Grace is a part of the York Dance Ensemble working with choreographer Jane-Allison Mckinny and Artistic Director, Syreeta Hector. Multi-disciplinary artist Jules Vance is originally from Dundas, Ontario. They are in their fourth year of a BFA in Dance at York University. Jules has trained in many dance disciplines and is passionate about contemporary, ballet, and modern dance forms. In their post-secondary education, they have explored many ways of creating movement and are constantly trying to redefine what dance means to them. A career highlight was performing in Kingston’s 2023 Ground Up Dance Festival. Jules worked with emerging choreographer Ysabel Garcia and fellow dancers to create “Ablaze” for the festival. At York, they have performed in many dance shows such as Bloom 2022, Dance Innovations 2022, York Dances 2023, Dance Innovations 2023, ReGeneration 2024, and Bloom 2024. They have also choreographed in York Dances 2024, and Dance Innovations 2024. For the past two years, Jules has been a member of the York Dance Ensemble directed by Syreeta Hector.
